Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday October 12. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

On October 5 a WHITE-WINGED DOVE began visiting a Brookings feeder. It is
still being seen. If interested call Jean Sheldon at 469-0703.

The Hat Rock State Park COMMON POCHARD has not been see since early morning
October 4.

Also on October 5 a female BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was banded on Cape
Blanco in Curry County. A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was there the same day.

On October 8 a BLUE JAY began visiting a feeder at Oxbow near Brownlee Dam
on the Snake River. Some birders on the ill-fated offshore boat trip out of
Newport October 8 observed two XANTUS' MURRELETS. Large numbers of NORTHERN
FULMARS, all three jaegers, and some FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS were also
observed on the unplanned 12 hour trip.

Five MARBLED GODWITS, 100 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, and a RED KNOT were at
Siletz Bay October 8. A flock of 100 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, two POMARINE
JAEGERS, a PARASITIC, and a MERLIN were at the South Jetty of the Columbia
River October 7.

Three female SURF SCOTERS were on the Columbia River at Hayden Island in
North Portland October 8. At least eight were on the Monmouth Sewage Ponds
October 6.

Up to 18 GREAT EGRETS are now in Oaks Bottom in southeast Portland. The
lake there is now at a very low level. Over 100 EGRETS are at Fern Ridge
Reservoir near Eugene this fall.

During the evening of October 6 a BOREAL OWL was located three miles north
of the junction of Forest Roads 64-65 north of Tolegate in the Blue
Mountains.

A very unusual inland record of a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER is one at Bully
Creek Reservoir in Malheur County. It was first seen October 8.

Ducks and geese are swarming southward following that winter-like storm
last Tuesday. Landbird migrations are still moving with some added push.

Thats it for this week.
