Dear Birders:

I work with a small publisher who hopes to publish a
page-a-day birding calendar for 1997. The final
decision, which must be made in the next week or so,
hinges on the availability of good-quality color
photos of common and rare birds shot by amateur
birders like yourselves.

Since this is intended as a page-a-day calendar, we
will need more than 300 photos. Although we recognize
that there likely will be more submissions from North
America, we are interested in common and rare birds
from around the world.

Photos need to be in color and well composed with the
bird or birds easily distinguished and identified.
If the submission is from outside North America or of
a rare species, the source of idenification should be
included. Color transparencies are best, but
good-quality prints can be used. Since we expect (or
at least hope for) a large number of submissions, we
cannot be responsible for damage or loss; therefore,
dupes only should be submitted (note: no photos should
be submitted at this time).

If you are interested, please let us know IMMEDIATELY!
Don't send your photos now, but rather send us a list
of what photos you have available. We are interested
in any and all good photos you have.

** Give yourself some credit--if you are proud of the
photo, we want to consider it for the calendar. **

This could be your chance to share your birding photos
with a wider audience. It could be a chance for
publication credit and recognition. But the honest truth
is that it is not an chance to get rich quick! The
economic reality is that in order for this amateur
birding calendar to be feasible, payment must be in
recognition and with a copy of the calendar only. On the
other hand, if you are interested in becoming a
professional photographer but haven't been published
yet, this could be the springboard to bigger things!

Thanks. If responding via e-mail, please respond
directly to the address above, rather than replying to
this posting. Otherwise it may take longer for the
message to get to me. I hope to hear from YOU soon. And
please note that if we receive the volume of responses we
need, it may be a while before you receive a response.
This does not necessarily mean that we aren't interested,
but just that we are swamped. Thanks again.

P.S. Please distribute this notice to anyone you feel
may be interested.
