High tide roost at Ocean Shores:

10000 western sandpipers
3-5000 dunlin
1500 black bellied plover
2 peregrines
1 merlin

Saw a wild thing while a male peregrine was hunting some dunlin. One of those
annoying three-wheeled scooters was travelling along the beach scaring
shorebirds left and right. The peregrine dived on the scooter - twice - I
didn't beleive it the first time. The bird came within 2-3 feet of the scooter
drivers head. Unfortunately the driver was wearing a crash helmet. Not
wishing ill on anyone but I think you know about my attitude to people who
drive on beaches !!!!!
