This is Dale Goble with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

On October 15th, Dan Svingen and Kas Dumroese found 20+
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 DUNLIN, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 3
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 15 WESTERN GREBES, and *lots* of
GREEN-WINGED TEAL at Mann Lake. On the 19th, Dan found a SNOW
GOOSE, a winter-plummaged DUNLIN, a BAIRD's SANDPIPER, and 3
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS at Mann Lake. ID DeLorme p.55, A-1.

Along Coyote Gulch, Dan and Kas found 4-5 BEWICK'S WREN, a dozen
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, 1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW. Coyote Gulch
drops from the Palouse to the Clearwater River. ID DeLorme p.58, C-1.
To get there, take US 95 south from Moscow, turn left (east) toward
Genesee. Go straight through Genesee. Take the first right after leaving
town onto Central Grade Road. After 1/2 mile, go left onto Coyote Grade
Road (stay on pavement). Take the next right (south) onto Coyote Grade
Road rather than going straight onto Gray Eagle Road. Take the next
right (south) onto Coyote Grade Road rather than left onto Dump Road.
Just past the first farm house on the left (east), brush is apparent on both
sides of the road. A gravel road heads left (east) off Coyote Grade. Park
there and walk the next 1/2 mile or so checking the brush.

On October Oct 14, Dan also found GOLDEN EAGLE, NORTHERN
HARRIER, RED-TAILED HAWK, and SHARP-SHINNED HAWK at post #9
along MacAllister Trail; 2 NORTHERN PYGMY-OWLS were also calling.
The trail is southeast of Grangeville along the South Fork of the
Clearwater River. ID DeLorme p.55, C-5.

On the 14th, Mike Denny found 4 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and 30+
COMMON SNIPE on Woodward Canyon Road west of Lowden. On Dodd
Iowa Beef Road which runs east from Hwy 12 at the IBP slaughter yard
there was a PRAIRIE FALCON. At the Walla Walla River Delta, Mike
found 3 GREAT EGRETS, 12 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 DUNLIN, 1
SNIPE, and 1 BONAPARTE'S GULL. WA DeLorme p.40, the lower left-
hand corner.

At the McNary Dam Wildlife Area in Umatilla County, Oregon, there was a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW of the tan-striped race and 3 GOLDEN-
CROWNED SPARROWS. WA DeLorme p.29, A-6. Down the Columbia at
Lyle, Mike found 2 ACORN WOODPECKERS, 1 RED-BREASTED
SAPSUCKER, and a first-year BALD EAGLE.

On 15 October 1995, Andy Stepniewski observed an immature
OLDSQUAW on east shore of Soap Lake in Grant County; he also saw an
immature or female plumage SURF SCOTER at south end of Soap Lake.

There were 65 COMMON LOONS on Blue Lake; this is about usual for
mid-October. No Pacific Loons were noted since it is about a week early
for that species. Blue Lake is farther north on the Lower Grand Coulee
