21 October 1995
Nothing rare seen, but a quick drive up the Gorge to Johnday Dam
in Sherman County yielded the following
310 WESTERN GREBES above the dam
3 BONAPARTS GULLS below the dam

in addition to this there were several species of ducks in the wildlife
viewing area below the dam including REDHEAD, GREATER and LESSER SCAUP.
I also thought I heard a Clark's Grebe call from the impressive flock
above the dam, but could not confirm due to the distance of the birds,
the wind, and the cold. I have seen this species here in the past at
this time of year. Now's the time to check this area for seaducks,
gulls, loons, and other grebes. judging from my recollection of previous
years sightings, gull numbers below the dam should be on the rise now.
