a friend of mine called me late last night regarding a bird she had found on
her back porch. Her cat was sitting next to it staring at it, and the bird
was not moving. I was still asleep while I talked with her, so couldn't give
her any comprehensible advice (heck, I couldn't even say "hello"). I just
checked with her, and found that I reccommended she call the audubon society to
see what the recording said about sick or injured birds. She followed their
suggestion of placing it in a well-ventilated container, (and keeping it out of
sight of the cats) but she says it is still just sitting there and she is
worried. She would like advice on who to call for help for the bird. She's
going to contact the audubon office soon, but I thought I'd ask on here.

The bird is 6" long from tail to head, with a 1" beak that is "pointy". :)
The coloring is:

black with brown and white spots
spots are about oh, say 1/4-1/3 cm in diameter
brown ones vary from light amber to darker brown
white ones are on the underside
the brown spots are on the back and the head

Any advice? Places to call? She would greatly appreciate any information
you have on either what the bird is, or who to contact. Please contact her
directly at either begonia at serv.net, or via phone at 789-4835. She knows what
"Tweeters" are, so if you identify yourself that way, she'll understand.

Many thanks,
