Ray, what you want to do instead of line mode is to highlight blocks of text
using Control-^ (=Control-Shift-6 on my keyboard, at least). Hit
Control-^ to mark the beginning of the block to be deleted, then use
arrow keys to move the cursor to the end of the block. *Then* use
Control-K. Much less tedious, and more controlled, than using Control-K
on a line by line basis. Incidentally, if you do delete too much by
accident, by either method, Control-U brings it all back.
