I tried for the Bar-tail Thursday afternoon, at low tide, since I've often
seen the huge flocks of godwits and other large shorebirds on the mudflats
on the southwest shore at such times. Nothing! At the Marina, I found
one lonely Whimbrel. So it was depressing to read Don's tale of finding
all the godwits, etc. there in the morning. Other people have found them
in the past few days. When I drove east toward Raymond, I searched the
shoreline at several points and found nothing. So where do these hundreds
of birds go when they're not at Tokeland? And at what tide level are
they usually seen? :-(
