Arlene, I had to laugh when I read this, it invoked memories of a former
boss of mine. An excellent naturalist, but a practicer of your husband's
form of birding. His trips to South Monomoy I. were fondly referred to
as 'Bob's Death March', especially those in August. I personally prefer
your method, slow walking and letting the birds reveal themselves, rather
than trying to cover every square inch of the area I'm exploring. My
current boss (Kelly Cassidy) has shown me a side of myself I hadn't
noticed before, that I take the opposite approach when birding by car -
try to cover as many miles as possible. She knows this from experience!
