I'd like to point out that in the past two weeks I've been to
the Olympic Pennisula and Tokeland.

Along with the (yeah!) bar-tailed godwit, I saw "Protect your
property rights - yes on 48" signs EVERYWHERE in the rural
areas.

And I didn't see a single "No on 48" sign.

I hope this isn't an omen. I do see it as a (worrisome) sign that
the "No on 48" folks are in trouble.

What is it with your state? Here in Oregon, not only do we not
have "takings" laws, but we have state-wide planning (our land
use laws) which have been supported by a wide, wide margin by
the populace in all three initiative attempts to dump land use.

And two of those who pushed then-Governor McCall to get behind
land-use laws were FARMERS, RURAL FARMERS. (And McCall was
a Republican).

Our two states are so different in regard to attitudes towards
development.

Anyway, best of luck, folks - I offer the observations in regard
to "Yes on 48" signage in hopes of motivating lovers of birds
and their habitat in Washington into action.
