At the Wenas Creek campout this spring, John (I can't remember his last name), call him venerable John from the Audubon Society, told a Starling story.

At an AS chapter office in California one of the volunteer staff brought in an unfledged baby bird she had rescued and was nurturing. She cared for it for a week or more and then she suddenly didn't have it with her anymore. After much prying her co-workers managed to get her to tell them what happened. When it got enough feathers for her to identify it she found it to be a Starling so she flushed it.
