In the last 10 days (from about October 15), a raft of at least 65 surf
scoters accompanied by 3 male Barrows goldeneyes have settled in around
the north side of the Des Moines WA fishing pier. West of the pier out in
the center of the Sound , two western grebes were seen. These grebes
don't approach the shore as do the horneds and the red-necks (I have not
seen any red-necked grebes staying here yet). A few double-crested
cormorants are staying and roosting on the totem poles at the marina
entrance.

The Siberian red-breasted goose reported earlier has not been seen since
about a week after the initial sighting. I'm assuming one of the Kent
goose breeders was able to catch the bird (or a great horned owl had a
sumptuous meal!).

More later as is seen.
