Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday October 26. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

An OLDSQUAW was at Winchester Bay on the Central Coast October 21, the same
day a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Flores Lake near Port Orford. Very heavy
shorebird movements were noted along the beaches. Over 4000 SANDERLINGS
were on Bayocean Beach at Tillamook Bay October 21. Five SNOWY PLOVER and
four WESTERN SANDPIPERS were also on the beach.

On October 23 a SNOW BUNTING and a VESPER SPARROW were at the South Jetty
of the Columbia River. An early TUNDRA SWAN was at the Trojan Nuclear Plant
that day.

Good numbers of waterfowl and SANDHILL CRANES are still being seen on
Sauvie Island. Many CRANES are now moving south. A large flock was over
Tigard October 22. Good numbers of GREAT EGRETS are still at Oaks Bottom in
southeast Portland. Many hybrid NORTHERN FLICKERS are being reported as the
northern flight has arrived. A SHORT-EARED OWL was picked up near Boring
during the week and brought into the care center.

On October 24 six SURF SCOTERS, an OLDSQUAW, and a PACIFIC LOON were among
79 WESTERN GREBES and ten COMMON LOONS on Timothy Lake in the Cascades.

On October 24 two SURF SCOTERS were on McGuire Reservoir in the Yamhill
County Coast Range and a PRAIRIE FALCON was north of MacMinnville. On that
day a SURF SCOTER and two HORNED GREBES were on McGilchrist Pond in Salem.

On October 23 two BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were among a CEDAR WAXWING flock on
Minto Island in Salem. They could not be relocated.

A LONG-EARED OWL and a BLUE GROUSE were on Mt. Ashland October 20. A BLACK
PHOEBE was in Ashland the day before.

310 WESTERN GREBES and 3 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were at the John Day Dam east of
the The Dalles October 21. A probable CLARK'S GREBE was heard calling.
Birds are now gathering at the Columbia River dams. It may get very good
during November.

F flock of 75 WESTERN BLUEBIRDS, two LESSER GOLDFINCHES, and a NORTHERN
SHRIKE were near Wamic October 21. Five GREATER and one LESSER YELLOWLEGS
were at a nearby pond.

A full adult male WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was on the Prineville Sewage Ponds
October 24.
