When I grew up in the Midwest (northwestern Indiana and central Illinois) I don't remember crows being urban birds. As I recall they were only found in farm country and extremely wary. Is this faulty observation on my part or does this difference in distribution exist in other areas? If true I suspect the fact that crows were vigorously hunted as pests contributed to this phenomenon.
