I sprinted for the Northern Wheatear in Tillamook soon after the word got
out and I can now offer some more details.

To get to the Tillamook High School, travel Highway 101 south out of
Tillamook, turn east on tenth (you should notice a sign for the school
here) and continue for several blocks to Miller Ave where you have to turn
left or right. Turn right (south) then turn left (east) on twelfth. The
school is a short distance on the right. The parking lot opposite the
school is a convenient and safe place to park. Walk to the east where
railroad tracks cross twelfth. Immediately east of the tracks and south
of twelfth is a log yard. I walked south along the tracks until I noticed
the wheatear fly up from the ground and perch on the end of a log in the
stack about 50 yards from me. This was about 150 to 200 yards south of
twelfth. I watched the bird during the last half hour of sunlight as it
flew around the area of broken-up bark between the tracks and the large
stack of logs. It was present when I left at 6:15 p.m.

The bird spent this time either perching a few feet from the ground on
pieces of wood or a stack of railroad ties along the tracks or running
around on the ground amidst the bark picking at insects. A couple times
it called which was a soft 'chuck' reminiscent of Hermit Thrush.

This is the third record for Oregon.
