Jan Bragg and I just spent a few hours at Spencer Island looking for the
Vireo but to no avail. Luckily there were many other birds to amuse us as
well as birders. We saw an immature Goshawk fly over the trail probably
full from a Vireo lunch. There were hoards of Golden-crowned Kinglets and
Black-capped Chickadees. We did see a couple Yellow-rumped warblers but not
the flock with the Vireo. An American Bittern flew over one of the
dikes(great looks). We debated a great deal over a plover and decided it
was a Golden and now looking at Dennis's book I think it was an American
Golden- Plover based on the long primary projection (Pacific has a short
projection). This bird was on a small spit of mud between the barn and
cross levee (about a 45 degree angle). Anyway what a great place to bird
(when the fog burns off).
