Early this morning I began my birding routine in ths small town of
tofino, on the west coast of VAncouver Island. It was not long before I
found 4 species of warbler. I was quite surprised to find most of these
birds in the same tree! THis reminded me of my birding days at POint
Pelee. WHat was to remind me even more was soon spotting a Bay-breasted
Warbler. I woke up the only 2 birders I know in town. I showed them the
bird and we went our separate ways. By the end of the day, we all met
again and had tallied 7 species of warbler. Here they are:
1) Yellow-rumped
2) Orange-crowned
3) Yellow (4 of them)
4) Townsend's
5) Palm (3)
6) Bay-breasted
7) Tennessee

WHat was fascinating to note was that every single ivy bush in town was
host to one or more warblers! THE ivy was blooming and attracting
hundreds of bees which in turn were attracting the warblers. It was
quite warm in town with clear sunny skies, so much so that a Painted Lady
emerged (butterfly) and was in an immaculate state!

Other birds of note: Tropical Kingbird (Oct 28), Snow BUnting(4),
WHite-winged Crossbill (10), Kestrel, Meadowlark, Hutton's Vireo......

I wonder how many species of warblers were seen at Point Pelee today?
