I have observed the same thing. There is at least one Trumpeter Swan that
is resident at Stanley Park, it does not migrate. Lots of birders come in
from out of town and 'twitch' this bird, but most of the locals consider it
a domesticated bird. Is it possible that this is a leftover from the days
when they introduced a great many 'collection' waterfowl into the park?
There are still a few Mandarin Ducks left but the Black Ducks appear to have
died off.
