Burt Guttman noticed pileated woodpeckers eating berries. A couple of years
ago, while living at Gull Harbor near Olympia, I walked out of the house one
fall morning and saw three pileateds feasting on ripe pears. They were so
engrossed in their feeding that I was able to approach within ten feet to
observe them. It was a wonderful experience!
And please, no comments about pileated woodpecker ripe-pear-ean habitat.
