I had temporarily lost the brain cells that stored the memory of flickers
coming into our yard every fall and eating apples, both on the tree and on
the ground. Doesn't take too many flicker pokes to ruin an apple for human
consumption. Other than cherry tomatoes, the fruit we grow mostly ends up
for the birds (and squirrels, raccoons, etc.).
