A second note on woodpeckers and their food.

During the past few winters here in Wenatchee we have had one or two
flickers living off walnuts. They will spend hours digging down into the
snow looking for the nuts our kids missed during the fall (and our kids are
very poor nut harvesters). Each flicker will also have a small group of
juncos waiting to see what they can either steal or pick up afterwards.
It's fun to watch the junco lurk behind the much bigger flicker, just
waiting for a chance to dash around front and grab a tidbit.
