I'd estimate the goldfish was about 9 or 10 inches. Probably worth less
than a thousand? I guess an osprey dining on fancy Japanese goldfish is
like a person having a gourmet dinner at Canlis - except that the osprey
doesn't have to wear a tie. Also no cover charge or tip required.

I'm seeing more goldfish in suburban, and even rural, ponds these days. I
think people get tired of caring for aquarium pets and dump them, but in a
pond I understand that even the little pet store fish can grow to very large
sizes. Good protein source for those hungry seahawks.
