That's a pretty good description of a Ruff, as far as I'm concerned, Rose.
Good for you! Thanks for coming out of the bushes. Even a harrier is a
good bird for the fill, but a cat certainly isn't. Harriers are bad news
when it comes to shorebirds; I can't count how many times one has spooked a
flock of shorebirds I was watching; they're good for documenting
disappearing flight patterns, at least.
