I spent Labor Day at Ocean Shores - the labor being identifying shorebirds.
It seems like each fall it becomes a new avocation.

At the game range there was not much in the way of shorebirds, but there was
a beautiful peregrine perched on a downed tree near the sand spit (probably
a good reason for the lack of shorebirds!) On the small island of sand
there were a lot of plovers; many were black-bellied but I was too far away
to determine if there were golden plovers within the group. Two Red-throated
loons and a bunch of Double-crested Cormorants.
Lots of pipits and some Savannah sparrows. Nothing much at the ponds at the
STP.

The pond at Damon Point was very productive. Two Buff-breasted Sandpipers
flew in about 50 feet away and foraged for about 30 minutes. Incredible
views of a life bird for me. A stilt sandpiper flew in as well and stayed
around for at least 30 minutes. Semipalmated plovers, Western Sandpipers,
Greater Yellowlegs, Long-billed Dowitcher ; low numbers but good diversity.
Baird's and pectoral sandpipers had been seen earlier in the day and both
species of golden plover were reportedly seen there.

On the jetty, Black and Ruddy Turnstones as well as Surfbirds. Sooty
Shearwaters besides the various cormorants and pelicans.

One rather shabby looking Brant on the bank at the far end of the lake. And
a peregrine flew through just as I got there.

A small flock of Snow Geese were seen at the the airport but the busy air
traffic kept spooking them.
