For those interested in keeping track of birds in the Des
Moines/south-central Puget Sound areas, the first red necked grebe showed
up Sept 4. Red necked grebes are apparently winter residents around the
marina. This will be the first complete fall/winter season I have lived
here; so, it's going to be great tracking the cormorants, grebes,
goldeneyes, etc., that winter within easy viewing from the Des Moines marina.
