Gene,

Atkin's Lake is an ephermeral lake 31 miles east of Waterville along Hwy 2
(Douglas Co.). This year it covers over 100 acres, with grassy, rocky, and
muddy banks.

The old timers say that it often produced good shorebirds in the spring, but
it is unusual to have so much water in it into the fall. It is best to approach
it from the west, L road (Heritage Road).

This fall migration it has produced some good birds: Red Knot, Black-bellied
Plover, Semipalmated Sandpiper, and a Bobolink along the weedy shore.
