Alan,

The "Kortright" of yesteryear was republished by Frank C Bellrose (I
believe he was with the Illinois Natural History Survey). This book is
de rigueur for those of us fortunate enough to have taken a full course
in "Biology of Game Birds" in pursuit of a degree in "Wildlife Management".

Ducks, Geese and Swans of North America. 1980. 3rd Edition. Stackpole
Books.

It gives a pretty good account of the life histories of the various
*wild* N American waterfowl, including the many, many subspecies of
Canada goose... but does not address the domestic fowls.
