I spent a glorious 4 days in the north cascades/okanagon area.
Some of the species seen in the high country were:
Aug. 31 Maple Pass loop trail. THis is a new loop , starting
and ending from Rainy Pass on the N. Cascades highway.
wilson's warbler ( I was surprised tofind this so high- 5000
ft elevation but only 8 ft off the ground, true to its
species.
yellow-rump WA
hermit thrush
ruby-crowned kinglet
stellar's jay
red-breasted nuthatch
white-crowned sparrow
flicker
blue grouse

Grasshopper Pass from Hart's Pass:(additional species not listed above)

(red-tail HA
C. Raven
golden-crowned kinglet
golden eagle
Mt. bluebird
chipping sparrow
grey jay
Clark's nutcracker
robin
junco
Townsend's warbler
MacGillarvy's warbler

Roger Lake (6000 ft off FR39 Delorme C1, p.114)

Mt. Chickadee
Townsend's solitaire
northern harrierr
bleted kingfisher
downy woodpecker
pine grosbeak
song sp
white-winged crossbills

Continuing to the Thuunder Mt. burn I found my first
Three-toed woodpecker, after several fruitless trips and hikes to
various locales. Thanks to M. Poss and N. Ferguson for much earlier
postings

Then the big disappointment: On Sept. 3 I hiked to
|Easy Pass again from N. Cascades Highway. THis is only
5 miles west of Maple Pass trail, is also mostly north facing,
weather was similar. But the only bird was a red-breasted nuthatch
honking in the distance! A real puzzle to me.
