Well ok, so they werent really diving, but they were doing their best.
On Vancouver Is. last week, at a bay on the western shore of the Sannich
Penninsula, near the Institute for Ocean Studies, I saw 30 Canadian Geese
bobbing for green seaweed in water from knee height (on a goose ) to
deeper. The deeper ones were actually boyant with tails held high like a
Mallard to reach the good green stuff. They comically tried to bob
downward in water over their heads. Is this usual behavior for Canada
Geese to act like Mallards? All I've ever seen around here is geese
trying to look like sheep.
BTW, I planned my trip to the Inst for Ocean Studies BEFORE the notice
of the Yellow Wagtail appearred....that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
