Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday September 21, 1995. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

Two FULVOUS WHISTLING-DUCKS wre found on Upper Campbell Lake in the Warner
Valley of Lake County September 18. So far they have not been relocated.

A moribund LAYSAN ALBATROSS was picked up on a Lincoln County beach over
the week-end. It later died in a rehab center.

A juvenile SABINE'S GULL was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River
September 16. OOTY SHEARWATERS, RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, MARBLED MURRELETS,
and BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES have been regularly seen during the week along
the coast.

A WHITE-TAILED KITE was in the Columbia River bottomlands near Clatskanie,
Columbia County September 10. An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and 12 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS were near Coon Point on Sauvie Island September 17. Four
AMERICAN AVOCETS were near the Narrows on the Island September 19. A
WHITE-TAILED KITE and an early SNOW GOOSE were at Fern Ridge near Eugene
September 16.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER, and a PEREGRINE FALCON were at
the Mollala Sewage Ponds September 18. A PRAIRIE FALCON was at Timberline
Lodge on Mt. Hood September 16, as a good hawk movement was reported from
many areas.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Lapine, Deschutes County September 18. A
juvenile SABINE'S GULL was at Lake Abert September 18. 11,505 AMERICAN
AVOCETS were there that day and 11,000 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were still in
the area - down considerably from late August.

Over 150 species were recorded during the Oregon Field Ornithologists
meeting at Malheur Refuge over the week-end. Birding overall was rather
slow but a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and a GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE were seen near
Refuge Headquarters. A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT there September 17, was thought
to be of the eastern race. An AMERICAN REDSTART was at Benson Pond on the
Refuge. There were two unidentified birds at Fields during the week-end.
One was most probably a female BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, the other
remains unidentified.

A flock of 75 BLACK-ROSY FINCHES were at the east rim viewpoint on Steens
Mountain September 17. There were not there the day before or the day
after. An early ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and a probable BROAD-WINGED HAWK were
among the hawks migrating past the viewpoint over the week-end.

Thats it for this week.
