The female Peregrine Falcon who hunts around the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge
during the winter is back. If my memory serves me, this is her 5th winter
here that we know of. (Check with the Falcon Research Group for more
detailed records: 360/757-1911.) "Freeway," or "The Freeway Bird," as
many call her, is a very pretty Peregrine, when she's at her best. I
haven't had a chance to really _look_ at her this year, but in past
years, she's been a beautiful, peachy color... looks great in the morning
sun and the setting sun-- when I-5/Ship Canal commuters can see her most
mornings and evenings, on top of the north or south power towers. (Ain't
it amazing to buzz or grope along in commuter traffic, and SEE this
magnificent bird, looking over us all?!)

There's a lot more Peregrine activity! "Junior," the male hatchling from
the WAMU family of '95, is alive and well. Though he is, by now, hunting
independently, he still joins Stewart and Belle occasionally, sitting on
a ledge or making cooperative flights.
