David,

Congratulations on your sighting. Normally the three resident "Southern
Pods" "J" "K" and "L" spend most of their time west of San Juan Island and in
the Straits but occasionally range into southern Puget Sound. They are
following the salmon migration this time of year and may have been feeding
off the mouth of the Duwamish.

I saw L Pod just north of Orcas lsland near the Canadian border on Wednesday
afternoon heading north. It is likely that the group you saw was "J" or "K".
