This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

Mike Denny saw several good birds at Atkins Lake, which is about 8
miles west of Coulee City, Washington, along US 2, on September 16.
Sightings included an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, 5 SANDERLINGS, 3
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 56 SANDHILL CRANES, an adult
PEREGRINE FALCON, a single BAIRD'S SANDPIPER and a couple of
WOOD DUCKS. See Washington DeLorme p. 85, halfway between c-
and d-5.

On the Idaho side, things are pretty quite. Shirley Sturts reports 4
dowitchers, probably LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, on the Coeur d'Alene
River delta just north of Harrison, Idaho, on September 21. Also there
were 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS. The best viewing is from Harlow Point
Road. Harlow Point Road leaves Idaho 97 at milepost 70.1, about 1.5
miles north of Harrison. See Idaho DeLorme p. 60, c-1.

Shirley also reports COMMON LOONS are becoming more common along
the east shore of Lake Coeur d'Alene, with birds seen at Beauty Bay,
Turner Bay and Camp Easton on September 19 and 20. The east side of
the lake is easily perused by traveling Idaho 97. Idaho 97 runs from
Interstate 90 to just north of St. Maries. See Idaho DeLorme p. 60, b-2.

Finally, Susan Weller and Shirley Sturts report AMERICAN PIPITS this
past week. The duo saw 6 birds on September 18 in the Medimont,
Idaho, area. Medimont is along Idaho 3 between St. Maries and
Interstate 90, along the Coeur d'Alene River. See Idaho DeLorme p. 60,
c-2. Shirley saw a flock of 7 birds or so on the 21st on the Rathdrum
Prairie northwest of Coeur d'Alene. See Idaho DeLorme p. 60, a-1.

Good birding!

A second final note from the transcriber: I entertained a tan-striped phase
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW in my backyard in Moscow for most of
Sunday the 24th. My other dinner guests were unimpressed.
