Your point is, as usual, well taken. I meant the original statement more as
a comment on the status quo than a criticism.

Some hunters refer to people like me (us?) as "warm fuzzies" because I abhor
hunting and can't imagine taking pleasure in the act of killing; but there
comes a time when it's the simplest and most economical solution to a
problem. When my 20 year old cat was dying in pain, I'm the one who put the
bullet through her brain. Because it was my responsibility. I now have
another cat (which I didn't want). He's a huge neutered male who's trained
to leave the birds alone. I think he has saved many of the birds which come
to my house by keeping all the neighborhood cats out of my yard. I don't
dislike cats or dogs or sea lions; but I think it's a waste of valuable
resources to have people catching these creatures and hauling them off to
some other locale or pound. I'd rather shoot them and have all those
biologists go out and pull loosestife out of your reclaimed landfill.
