Jan, you're only getting postings when people remember to cc. them to you,
if you're not actually on the tweeters mailing list.

I'm sure that most people who like cats like birds, although I'm less sure
about the reverse. Probably still a majority, as many, many of my birding
friends have cats. I have one, strictly confined to the house except when
we go out with him.

Shirley Weslander's message, while inflammatory and showing her ignorance
of nature as well as her prejudices against "them," is no worse than the
rabid anti-cat messages that have been sent by some birders. None of them
contributes anything to solutions.

And, especially, they don't get at the problem of "individual life" vs.
"ecosystem integrity." That's the crux of why animal-rights people and
environmentalists are often diametrically opposed to one another, a real
shame for two groups both of whom value life. I don't see that the twain
shall meet with much likelihood.
