I suggest that a special discussion list be set up to discuss cats and
wildlife, apart from tweeters.
The recent cat/bird discussion thread on BIRDCHAT causes such a furor
and flurry that after years of being an "open" list, BIRDCHAT is now
carefully monitored so that no one posts too frequently, and no one
gets as obnoxious as some apparently became in that thread. Cat discussions
are still a legitimate topic on BIRDCHAT; it's just that there are some
general (not just cat-related) tempering going on over there.
The issue of cats and the (more) natural environment is a very difficult
one, full of very personal and very emotional content, as well as full
of very difficult choices and management strategies. It can easily
merit its own forum, where birders and catters can feel they are in
the right place to discuss this topic fully and extensively.
Since cats and birds is not a particularly region-limited topic, perhaps
the discussion list should be set up with a national (and elsewhere) scope?
Perhaps the owners of tweeters and BIRDCHAT can get together and discuss
who might be willing to host the list?
(I've been hitting the Delete Key on this tweeters topic, so please forgive
me if all this has been suggested before.)
