Some people have contacted me wondering about the nature of my reply to
the person who thinks "bird watchers that aren't vegetarians are
hypocrites" (sorry I can't remember who that was). I will take the time
now to explain myself.

I participated in the very first discussion about feral cats on Birdchat
a few years ago. I bear the scares from that discussion as well as many
others on Birdchat and here on Tweeters. When the first discussion came
about, I felt that I had a good opportunity to educate people on the
problems that free roaming cats caused in the environment. After typing
and posting what I thought was a well argued statement, I got many
responses from people saying what mean person I was for even thinking
that cats should be controlled. I was quite shocked to get any messages
of that kind at all from a group such as Birdchat, which I thought would
be receptive to hearing the *facts* about free roaming cats.

The one sure thing that I have learned in all of the discussions on this
topic is that no matter how well reasoned and thought out your response
to the cat thing is, it is falling on deaf ears. A well reasoned and well
informed argument *WILL ALWAYS LOSE TO ONE THAT IS OVERLY PASSIONATE AND
UNDER INFORMED*. >>>>WITHOUT EXCEPTION<<<<. Even the ones that are very
well composed by leading experts, such as the one that Dennis wrote to
the person who thinks "bird watchers that aren't vegetarians are
hypocrites", are, I'm sure, a waste of time.

When I saw the posting from the person that thinks "bird watchers that
aren't vegetarians are hypocrites", and realized what an absurd direction
the thread was heading in, I thought I would magnify this absurdity,
back it up with a little humor (which was pilfered directly from Monty
Python's Holy Grail) and try to bring thread to a quick and abrupt end,
instead of trying to change the opinion of a person who's opinion I had
no chance of changing (I only have to beat my head against the wall so
many times before I remember that it hurts).

So with that;

-if my posting offended anyone, I apologize. However, this is not to be
construed as an apology for my sense of humor, it will continue.

-if you think that my sense of humor is bizarre and twisted, you are correct.

-if you think that I my posting was a serious flame, lighten up.

-if you think that I think that anybody's mother is a Calico and their
father smells of Siamese (or that their mother is a hamster and their
father smells of Elderberry), get help. The phone number for Group
Health's Mental Health office is 287-2500.

-and finally, if you really think that "bird watchers that aren't
vegetarians are hypocrites", you are right. This point, and others like
it, has been proven time and time again, and I threw in the towel a long
time ago.

Nobly yours,
