Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday September 28. If you have anything to add call Harry
Nehls at 233-3976.

Migrations continue.

On September 24, two PALM WARBLERS were at Nelscott near Siletz Bay. Two
WILLETS have been at Yaquina Bay all month. The SNOWY EGRET remains on
Yaquina Bay near Toledo. A TRUMPETER SWAN has been at Eckman Lake near
Waldport all fall and may remain to winter.

On September 26 a number of DUNLIN were among the swarm of shorebirds at
Tillamook Bay. A MARBLED GODWIT was on the beach there and many PACIFIC
LOONS were offshore.

A leucistic RED KNOT were with AMERICAN and PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River September 23. A FERRUGINOUS HAWK was
along the lower Columbia River near Skamokawa, Washington that day.

An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, three BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, a MARBLED GODWIT,
and five AMERICAN AVOCETS were at Sauvie Island September 23. Few
shorebirds have been on the Island since. Hundreds of SANDHILL CRANES are
now on the Island. A late CASPIAN TERN, an early HERRING GULL, and large
flocks of waterfowl were on the Island September 27. The wildlife area will
be closed October 1 (Sunday) until January 30.

A FORSTER'S TERN was north of Salem near Hopewell in Yamhill County
September 23.

Birders looking for the FULVOUS WHISTLING-DUCK in the Warner Valley last
weekend were unsuccessful. They did find a SABINE'S GULL at Crump Lake in
the Valley and a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW near Adel.

A group of 17 SANDERLINGS were at Summer Lake September 24 along with three
FRANKLIN'S GULLS, a HORNED GREBE and many AVOCETS.

At Lake Abert September 24 there were no RED-NECKED PHALAROPES where up to
a week ago there were thousands. Thousands of AMERICAN AVOCETS and a few
BLACK-NECKED STILTS were there this week end.

During the morning of September 27 a TROPICAL or COUCH'S KINGBIRD was seen
near the tower at Malheur NWR Headquarters. This is a very unusual inland
record.

Tuesday October 3 is Birders Night at Portland Audubon. Meet in Audubon
House at 7:30 pm for the latest birding news.

That's it for this week.
