Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday April 4. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

A bright male COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD began coming to Mark Lundgren's feeders
in southwest Portland March 28 and continues to be seen. If interesting in
seeing the bird call Mark at 293-9284.

A very distinctive adult male TUFTED DUCK was found March 27 along Sauvie
Island Road on Sauvie Island. Drive straight ahead after coming off the
bridge and continue north to the mile post 7 marker. The nearby house
number is 27238. The bird is in a pond full of diving ducks a ways off the
road. A scope is advised but not necessary.

The Meares Lake TUFTED DUCK was seen over the week-end but is a bit
erratic. The Sandy River EMPEROR GOOSE continues to be seen at Lewis and
Clark State Park.

On March 31 a FERRUGINIOUS HAWK was along Oak Island Road on Sauvie Island.
Only a few SANDHILL CRANES are being seen on the Island now as the large
flocks moved out during the week. Plenty of geese are still around
especially in Scappoose Bottoms, including good numbers of WHITE-FRONTED
GEESE.

On March 30 two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were in Whitehorse Park near Grants
Pass. That day a SWAMP SPARROW was three miles east of Murphy along Highway
238 south of Grants Pass. The next day a CASPIAN TERN was at the mouth of
the Illinois River near Agness.

On April 2 a CASPIAN TERN and a female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER were at the
mouth of the Deschutes River east of The Dalles.

An out of range (?) singing BEWICK'S WREN was found March 29 along the John
Day River at Twickenham in Wheeler County.

Good water bird movements are being reported along the coast now. Hundreds
of WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were on the ocean at Pacific City March 29. Large
flocks of BRANT are now moving northward.

CINNAMON TEAL were reported from Meares Lake and at Cedar Canyon near
Banks. ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS were reported from several areas. A COMMON
YELLOWTHROAT was along the bike path at Fort Stevens State Park near
Warrenton March 30.

Singing WILSON'S WARBLERS were found April 1 at Lake Oswego and at Aurora.
CLIFF and ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS are now arriving but BARN SWALLOWS are
still scarce.

Thats it for this week.
