Dear Tweeters:

Spring is here! And I am about to participate in my first Portland Audubon
Society Birdathon, the biggest fund-raising event of the year. This year we
hope to raise $40,000.

The weekend of May 4th and 5th, Portland Audubon birders of all ages and
abilities will grab their binoculars and spotting scopes, and stuff
themselves into vans for a 48-hour birding trip which starts at Newport, on
the coast, and proceeds to Malheur in the southeastern Oregon desert, and
then back to Portland.

You can join me in supporting the Portland Audubon Society by pledging me
money for each species of bird that I identify within that 48-hour period.
I expect that number to be between 170 and 190 birds. The record is 199.

Funding from this event goes to support programs such as:

Natural History Education Programs that serve over 10,000 children and
adults each year.

The Wildlife Care Center, that treats more than 3,500 injured or abandoned
animals brought in by the public each year.

A Wildlife Sancuary System of over 250 acres.

Conservation efforts including preservation of wilderness, wetlands, old
growth forests, enforcement of land use laws, protection of habitat and
water resources in Oregon.

Please decide how much you would like to pledge. You may pledge an amount
per species, or a flat pledge for the entire event. If you are not a
Portland Audubon Society member, a minimum pledge of $25 gets you your first
year of membership free (call PAS at 503-292-6855). You will receive the
monthly newletter, the "Warbler," and you'll receive a 10% discount on all
purchases at the Portland Audubon store. Send me your pledge in an email or
a letter:

helping me meet my pledge goal for a fantastic weekend of birding!
