This week's birding trip is on friday, so this week's entry will not
consist of sightings, but instead we're going to enter a selection of our
class poems.

Hercules

The morning sun grooms thy feathers
The light sharpens thy talons
And carves thy slashing beak
Thine eyes burn like twin fires.
Though spreads thy wings and flys
Hercules of the skys.

This little bird
This little bird stands all alone,
On one of the last big beautiful trees,
Staring down on his deserted valley, so dark, so dreary.
He wonders how it happened,
Why are the trees all gone
but then he turns his back and leaves
off to a far away land, a beautiful land
and hopes that it won't be destroyed.

All Alone
In the shadows it stands
With its work all done.
He stands in the shadows looking over the falling sun.
It's eyes expand in the midst of death and life,
It is ready for it is ready for it's nocturnal prey.
It lets go from its leisure on the branch,
Steps into the dark,dark,dark shadow,
The barbwires left behind.
And the open field of life left open to the night warrior.
The Owl

Bird Perching

Bird perching that flys in the sky,
Bird perching in a tree so high,
Bird singing such a lovely song,
Bird going and then he's gone,
If I was a bird would I perching,
And,
Sing songs,
Or would I go and be gone.

A few people may go to the greenbelt near our school and listen for
Western Screech Owl (WSOW). Dean ,our teacher, went out awhile ago an
played a recorded owl's call. When we go there we are going to play it back,
and see if they will call back.

Q. Do you think it would scare off the other birds? If the owls are mating
do you think it would scare them off? And do you think we should do it at
all? Please call back?
