Some American pipits have pink legs. Does anyone know
their taxonomic status? I understand these may be a good species ("Anthus
japonicus"), as leg color in pipits and other taxa is a pretty
conservative character. They are apparently seen on the west coast. I
noticed that they also showed up at Cape Thompson, Alaska, later in the
summer, but may have been present but overlooked earlier in the breeding
season too.
