Subject: Crimson-fronted Parakeets!

Well, I finally examined the slides, taken in Dec 93 and Nov 94, of the
parakeets that visited my yard (1724 NE 98 St., Seattle) a number of times,
and they were Crimson-fronted Parakeets after all. Photos on both dates
showed at least one bird with red just peeping out from under the wing
edge. The other two species with red foreheads--Scarlet-fronted and
Mitred--show no red under the wing. Thus this puts to rest any hypothesis
that the Seward Park and north-end birds might be the same flock. So it
appears we have a two-parakeet-nesting city.

Good for you, Fred and Mike, for prompting a closer examination of these
birds. Now if we can just figure out the identity of the Seward Park
bunch. And form up a Parakeet Ecology Team. And put up boxes for them on
some downtown buildings.....
