Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording

The TUFTED PUFFINS have returned to their breeding rocks along the coast
and the shorebird migrations have begun. Yellowlegs, DUNLIN, BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER, and dowitchers have been seen in many areas during the week. BARN
SWALLOWS and AMERICAN PIPITS are now appearing.

Three adult male LAPLAND LONGSPURS were at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw
River April 5.

A BARRED OWL was found roosting in the trees in Reed College Canyon in
southeast Portland April 4 and has been seen regularly since. Drive to
southeast 38th and Reedway street and walk down the trail into the canyon.
At the bottom of the slope check the trees along the bluff. A GREAT EGRET
was in Oaks Bottom in southeast Portland April 7.

Two WHIMBRELS were at the Township Road Swale near Canby April 7. A few
LEAST SANDPIPERS were there also. That day three BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were
along Highway 47 south of Forest Grove, and another was at the Kirkland
Road Sewage Ponds north of Medford. Just hatched Killdeer were found at the
Kirkland Ponds that day.

A LONG-BILLED CURLEW was at Baskett Slough NWR near Salem April 7. A ROSS'
GOOSE was briefly seen at Baskett Slough during the week.

A WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE was at Champoeg State Park near Newberg April 7. Two
male YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were back at their breeding site at Briedwell
Road Marsh west of Amity April 8. A singing SOLITARY VIRIO was in Salem
April 4 and at Creswell April 9.

Large concentrations of shorebirds are now at McFadden Marsh in Finley NWR.
A LESSER YELLOWLEGS was among at least 170 GREATER YELLOWLEGS and over 200
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS there over the week-end. Several BLACK-THROATED GRAY
WARBLERS were along the Woodpecker Trail in the refuge April 8.

A YELLOW WARBLER was with TOWNSEND'S, ORANGE-CROWNED, and YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERS on Skinner's Butte near Eugene April 6.

Over 60 TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS were at their colony near the Painted Hills
National Monument near Mitchell April 6. Migrant birds are becoming
conspicuous in Central Oregon now.

Two PINE GROSBEAKS were reported northeast of Chemult in the Winema
National Forest April 6. The birds were just south of Sellers Marsh as
noted on page 38 of the DeLorme Atlas.

Thats it for this week.
