This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

Mike Denny reports a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD and a ROSS' GOOSE in
northwestern Franklin County, Washington, on March 30. The goose was
in the pond at the Bailey Memorial Youth Ranch Wildlife Area along
Hendricks Road and the Mocker was 0.5 miles directly south of the
parking lot of the youth ranch under the transmission power. Take
Washington 24 south from Othello to the county line, then Seagull Road
south to Hendricks Road. Washington DeLorme p. 53, C-7.

At the Walla Walla River Delta on March 30 were 200+ DUNLIN and 5
CASPIAN TERNS according to Mike Denny. The Walla Walla River Delta is
about 30 miles west of Walla Walla at the Columbia River, just north of
the junction of US 12 and US 730. Cross the Walla Walla River and go
0.2 mile more. Just before milepost 307, take the gravel road on the
west side of the road.

At the Wallula compost piles along US 12, just north of the delta, was a
third-year GLAUCOUS GULL, reported by Mike Denny. Also there were
1000 asssorted California and Ring-billed Gulls. Just north of the
Wallula compost piles at Two Rivers Wildlife Management Area were 33
AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 2 BALD EAGLES, and 3 EURASIAN
WIGEONS, also reported by Mike Denny. All of these sights are on
Washington DeLorme p. 40, D-1.

At Mann Lake, just east of Lewiston, Idaho, today, April 5, Dan Svingen
and I saw two EURASIAN WIGEONS in a flock of about 75 American
Wigeons. Also there was an OSPREY and 3 TUNDRA SWANS. To get to
Mann Lake, follow US 12 into Lewiston and take 21st Street south, up
the hill. It turns into Thain. Follow it and when it goes from 4-lane to
2-lane and turns right (south), turn left (east) onto Powers and continue on
Powers until it dead ends at the lake. Idaho DeLorme p. 54, A-1.

Dan also saw an OSPREY yesterday along the Salmon River near Riggins,
Idaho.

I observed two SHORT-EARED OWLS just south of Asotin, Washington
on April 4. The birds were at the top of the Washington 129 grade as
you head south out of Asotin, between milepost 29 and 30. Washington
DeLorme p. 43, B-8.

Good birding!
