This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for April 12,
1996. For any questions regarding LCBAS call Mike Lilga at 946-8966.

On April 8, Nancy LaFramboise reported 2 or 3 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS in her
yard. I (Bob Woodley) had 3 or 4 kinglets in my yard on April 6, so
apparently a kinglet wave was moving through.

Ruth Fischer reported an OSPREY perched on the cable across the Yakima River
behind Acme Concrete (Richland) on April 6 and again on April 8.

On April 10, I noted 2 OSPREYS looking for their nest which the power
company presumably removed from their pole across from Groves Park
(Richland). However, the following day there were 2 OSPREYS on the nest
platform (LCBAS project) directly across from the Hanford House, so
hopefully they will rebuild.

On April 6, Mary Lilga reported 200-225 SANDHILL CRANES over North Richland
and another 25 low flying cranes on April 11.

April 7 yielded 3 pair of BLACK-NECKED STILTS, 13 AMERICAN AVOCETS, and over
200 DUNLIN on the Walla Walla Delta. While on the following day there were
6 BLACK-NECKED STILTS and 7 AMERICAN AVOCETS on the Yakima Delta.

On April 9, Nancy LaFramboise, Ruth Fischer, and I found a female MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRD, and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW along Horn Rapids Road, a lone SWAINSON'S
HAWK over the highway at the north end of the Hanford Reservation, and along
the road west of the Midway power station near Vernita we found 2 TURKEY
VULTURES, several CHUKARS, numerous GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, and about 30
WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS. This is the only location in the county where the
swifts are readily accessible.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
sightings after the tone. Thank you.
