northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

Dan Svingen reports a single THREE-TOED WOODPECKER at the mouth
of John's Creek, about 10 miles east of Grangeville, Idaho. He also noted
that RED-NAPED SAPSUCKERS are in.

Two BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were courting along the Puffer
Butte trail in Fields Spring State Park in southeastern Asotin County
Washington on April 7, according to John and Marty Hirth. The park is
along WA 129 south of Asotin and Anatone. WA DeLorme p. 43, D-8.

The Hirths also report a single PRAIRIE FALCON along Odonnell Road east
of the Pullman-Moscow Airport in eastern Whitman County Washington
on April 11. WA DeLorme p. 57, BC-8. Also in the neighborhood were
two LONG-BILLED CURLEWS. These birds were on Whelan Road near its
intersection with WA 27, about a mile north of Pullman. WA DeLorme p.
57, BC-7.

At the Walla Walla River Delta on April 6 were 200+ DUNLIN, 13
AMERICAN AVOCET and a single AMERICAN BITTERN according to Mike
and MerryLynn Denny. The Walla Walla River Delta is about 30 miles
west of Walla Walla at the Columbia River, just north of the junction of
US 12 and US 730. Cross the Walla Walla River and go 0.2 mile more.
Just before milepost 307, take the gravel road on the west side of the
road. WA DeLorme p. 41, D-1.

Farther north, at McNary NWR Headquarters, the Denny's report 2
BLACK-NECKED STILT and a SHARP-SHINNED and COPPER'S HAWK on
April 6. The refuge headquarters can be reached via US 12 just a few
miles southeast of Pasco, Washington. WA DeLorme p. 40, C-1.

Also on the 6th, at the Othello, Washington sewage ponds, the Denny's
saw 1200+ SANDHILL CRANES, a single TUNDRA SWAN, an adult
MEW GULL and a single adult HERRING GULL. To get to the ponds, head
west on Main Street which eventually becomes Cunningham Road.
Follow it until it ends. WA DeLorme p. 53, B-7.

Mike and MerryLynn also report the arrivals of OSPREY near Walla Walla
and SWAINSON'S HAWK just west of Touchet, Washington, on April 6.

Good birding!
