Kas: I have experienced a similar situation here at Kamloops, BC where a
PYOW could be found in the same forest type that you describe at 1700 feet
elevation for a period from mid March through until May. I suspected
breeding but was never able to confirm it. The bird was in the same place
continuously and responded quickly to a whistle although birds on winter
feeding grounds respond quickly as well. This is far lower than where I
expect breeding in this area. Sorry that I have no further useful data.
