Subject: Recycled plastic bird feeder

My delapidated wooden platform feeder finally broke apart when a
squirrel knocked it off of my porch railing and it crashed to the
ground. This past winter I think I poisoned a lot of pine siskins with
that feeder. I tried to keep it clean by soaking it in a bleach
solution and scrubbing it with a wire brush, but there was a lot of crud
stuck in the cracks.

I went to my local Wilds Birds Unlimited store to look for a plastic
platform feeder that would be easier to keep clean and guess what? They
had one!! They sell a large platform feeder made out of recycled milk
jugs colored dark green. Underneath the actual feeder is a screened
tray that can swing away from the feeder for easy cleaning. I am hoping
this will be a healthier way to feed the birds and a way to support the
recycling industry.

Also the owner of Wild Birds Unlimited told me to be on the look out for
Evening Grosbeaks and Black-Headed Grosbeaks. Many have been sighted in
the past week in our neighborhood.
