Jo Roberts & I made a quick trip to the upper C/B to check out audio
recording possibilities. We returned sooner than expected due to high
noise levels from agricultural machinery (spring wheat planting) and wind
levels. However, we birded along the way and the following resulted. It
is selective in that not all the common, reqularly occurring birds are
listed for every site unless they're the first observation for the season.

17 April. Vantage: GOLDEN EAGLE mobbed by RAVENs; Yakima River/I90
crossing and Ellensburg, OSPREY on nests (3); Yakima River, COMMON
MERGANSER. Sagebrush Flat: SWAINSON"S HAWK (1), SAGE THRASHER, BREWER'S
SPARROW. Jameson Lake: MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD, VIOLET GREEN SWALLOW (many),
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW (a few). The large concentration of ducks from two
weeks before was down by 2/3 but all the same species were present.
Stallard Lake: CINNAMON TEAL (pr), SHOVELLER, GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE
(40), SANDHILL CRANES (400). Sun Lakes State Park: COMMON LOONS (9 in
alt. plum.)

18 April. Swanson Lakes & Seven Dairy Road: KILLDEER, SNIPE, SHORT-EARED
OWL (4), ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK (9), RED-TAILED HAWK (4), PRAIRE FALCON (2),
KESTREL, PINTAIL (20), SHOVELLER, LARK SPARROW (1), BREWER'S SPARROW,
SAVANNAH SPARROW, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW (many).
